Barbra is the founder of BEAS Academy. She is a native of Annapolis, Maryland. Barbra received her Master of Arts in Educational Psychology from Towson University, a Special Education Teaching credential from Monterey Peninsula College and her AA in Speech Language Pathology from American River College in Sacramento California. Barbra serves as an Autism Ambassador for Autism Speaks and volunteers with the Special Olympics. Barbra has had exceptional results with children who experience behavioral issues and other various learning and emotional disabilities. Barbra is also a published author of children’s books.
Peter joined BEAS Academy in 2014. He has been acting as Executive Director and currently serves as Vice President and Treasurer of our Board of Directors. In addition to his administrative duties with BEAS Academy, Peter continues to work as a Spanish Language interpreter. He received his BA in Spanish from Humboldt State University and his MA in Spanish from Sacramento State. He has also received Translation & Interpretation certifications from National Hispanic University and San Francisco State University. Peter ensures everything runs smoothly behind the scenes and that our information is accurate and relevant. Peter is dedicated to community service. He has volunteered with The Monterey Bay Aquarium, the American River Parkway, the Special Olympics, and Auburn Ski Club. He is also a member of community organizations including the Eldorado Backcountry Ski Patrol.
Lizette Mancilla recently graduated with her Masters in counseling and Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential from CSU, Sacramento. In 2015, she received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in counseling. Through her academic and professional experiences, Lizette has shown to have the qualities of a leader passionate to make a change in children’s lives. She has previously worked as a paraprofessional for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and respite agency. For the past year and a half, she has also interned as a counselor in various local schools where she provided individual and group counseling for children K-12 with varying abilities. Lizette strongly believes that “every child is capable of reaching their academic and behavioral goals but it is up to us to nurture a child’s abilities by providing them with the appropriate tools to help them flourish and succeed”
Karen has been a CPA since 1990. After graduating from UC Davis with a Bachelor of Animal Science and a goal of veterinary school, she returned to California State University in Sacramento to complete the necessary coursework to sit for the CPA exam. She made a choice to support her horse habit instead of working directly with the critters. She was raised in a family business, Sacramento Barber and Beauty Supply, from an early age. Well versed in general business, by the age of sixteen Karen was stepping in for the company bookkeeper on a regular basis. Karen continues to enjoy owning McDougal & Co. Inc, Certified Public Accountants, working with her family of clients, pursuing interesting, creative, and entertaining solutions to business problems, family wealth transition, and minimizing income taxes through business entity selection and creative compliance with the tax laws. In her spare time, she enjoys horseback riding and parenting four active young adults plus one challenging almost 5 year old nephew.
Wade Kriletich is a lifelong California resident. He grew up in the rural communities of Calaveras and Amador counties where his love for recreational pursuits began. He is a skilled alpine ski and kayaking instructor as well as expert enthusiast. His passion for sustainable communities and resources has been interwoven with his work in the outdoor recreation industry. Throughout his career, Wade has programmed community based and diverse recreational offerings for both the public and private sectors along the California Coast and mountains. Wade focuses on strategies and techniques for involving all constituents when participating in outdoor recreational and educational programming. Currently Wade facilitates elementary reading intervention programs at a local public K-8 school. On and off campus, Wade builds community through respect and connections to each individual stakeholder. He lives with his dog, Rilla, near the Mokelumne River where they spend a great deal of time exploring and learning from the natural world.
